How does it work?

Anti-wrinkle injections have been on the market for almost 20 years. In this time they have proven to be safe and effective. Techniques, dosing, and composition of anti-wrinkle treatments have been refined over the last decade to provide clients with bespoke treatments suited to their needs. This is particularly true for anti-wrinkle treatments to the upper face.

A small injection of one of these products into a muscle will inhibit its contraction for several months. As the muscle can’t move, the skin over the muscle is relaxed. Any lines present have time to soften and even disappear entirely.

Clients usually feel the effect in 1-3 days, with maximal effect at 1-2 weeks. The time between treatments depends on several factors such as the dose administered, the duration since your last treatment, the quality of the skin and concentration of the injection. The benefits typically last 3-4 months for 95% of people. Younger clients get longer from treatments due to the high elasticity of their skin.

Some areas may require a top-up at the 2-week mark and your doctor will be in touch to follow up on your treatment results and arrange this appointment if necessary.

What will happen on the day of my treatment?

Your doctor will arrive at your place of treatment at the time of your appointment. They will ask you a few questions relating to COVID-19, to ensure that there is minimal risk of transmission. You will be asked if you read the consent form, which would have been emailed to at your time of booking. You will then be asked to sign a physical copy of the consent form. You will then be asked to sit in the treatment chair so the doctor can cleanse your skin. The doctor will assess your skin thickness and quality as well as the underlying muscles, to determine the injection points and dosing you require. A tiny needle is used to minimise bleeding and discomfort. The target areas are treated in 5-10 minutes.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Anti-wrinkle Treatments FAQ's

Q1: The Upper Forehead - How does it work?

Forehead lines appear at different stages of life for different people. They occur due to the use the frontalis muscles, to open the eyes wide and when making facial expressions. Some people constantly engage these muscles without realising it, to compensate for lid heaviness. Treating these lines results in a younger, fresher look.

Anti-wrinkle Injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscle contraction. Therefore, Anti-wrinkle Injections can reduce or completely prevent the dynamic movements which make these lines more prominent. The amount of inhibition depends on client preference and dosing. Some clients prefer to retain some movement and simply avail of the fresh-faced effect Anti-wrinkle Injections provides.

Over time even the deepest lines begin to soften, while superficial lines disappear entirely.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results. We find that the best course of action is to treat slow and provide top-ups as necessary.

Q4: The Lower Forehead - How does it work?

Movement of the lower forehead (frown lines) is controlled by three muscles. Two corrugator supercilli muscles which can cause vertical lines, and the procerus muscle which causes horizontal lines in between the eyebrows. These muscles work against those in the upper forehead. Therefore, these two regions are often treated together. Different dosing and injection techniques are used, depending on each person’s anatomy so it is important to be treated by an experienced professional.

Anti-wrinkle Injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscles contraction. In doing so, Anti-wrinkle Injections can reduce or completely prevent the dynamic movements which make these lines more prominent. The amount of inhibition depends on client preference and dosing. Some clients prefer to retain some movement and simply avail of the fresh-faced effect Anti-wrinkle Injections provides.

Q7: Outside of the Eyes (crow’s feet) - How does it work?

Crow’s feet form because of repeated use of the orbicularis oculi muscle over time. Laughing, smiling, or squinting results in muscle contraction, which causes lines to form on the overlying skin.

Anti-wrinkle Injections into this muscle prevents and softens lines outside the eye. It is often performed as a third area of treatment, in combination with the upper and lower forehead. (Anti-wrinkle 3 areas)

Anti-wrinkle Injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscles contraction. Therefore, Anti-wrinkle Injections can reduce or completely prevent the dynamic movements which make these lines more prominent. The amount of inhibition depends on client preference and dosing. Q10: Mini-Brow Lift - How does it work?

Some people naturally have a slight heaviness or hooding of their eyes. This results in low, flat eyebrows and a more prominent brow. It can be countered by performing a brow-lift. A brow-lift is a 1 or 2 area treatment, depending on the client’s anatomy and preference.

By injecting Anti-wrinkle serum into the outside of the eyebrow, part of the orbicularis oculi muscle can be relaxed. Anti-wrinkle Injections are also injected into the corrugator supercilli and procerus muscles, which are typically responsible for frown lines. The result is that the muscles which pull the brow downwards are relaxed, while the upper forehead (frontalis) muscle remains untreated or only very lightly treated. This allows the frontalis muscle to pull the brow upwards, resulting in a brow-lift.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results. We find that the best course of action is to treat slow and provide top-ups as necessary.

Q11: Mini-Brow Lift - What will happen on the day of my treatment?

Q13: Lip-Flip - How does it work?

Anti-wrinkle Injections are used in the upper and lower lip can create a subtle flipping effect. This can achieve a natural, fuller lip without the use of dermal filler.

The orbicularis oris muscle surrounds the mouth in a continuous oval. It pulls the mouth shut towards the centre. This can be seen when you perse your lips.

To create a lip-flip Anti-wrinkle serum is injected into the central part of this muscle causing it to relax while leaving the outside of the muscle working as normal. By relaxing this central part of the muscle, elevator muscles can have a greater effect, resulting in the lip lifting slightly. The result is a fuller, more visible lip. The exact same process can be performed on the upper and lower lips.

It is a painless procedure as a numbing agent will be used prior to injection.

Q14: Lip-Flip - What will happen on the day of my treatment?

  • Your doctor will arrive at your place of treatment at the time of your appointment.

Q16: Gummy Smile - How does it work?

In some people, the upper lip pulls dramatically upwards when smiling. This can result in a disproportionate gum to teeth ratio, as well as a crease under the nose.  By injecting Anti-wrinkle serum into the levator labii superioris aleque nasi muscle on either side of the nose this can be prevented.

Anti-wrinkle Injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscle contraction.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results.

Q17: Gummy Smile - What will happen on the day of my treatment?

Q19: Downturned (sad) Mouth - How does it work?

The depressor anguli oris muscle runs from the corner of the mouth to the chin. With age, this muscle can become tight, resulting in the edges of the mouth turning downwards. This leaves people looking sad or unhappy.

Anti-wrinkle Injections can relax this muscle, resulting in a subtle upturning.

It works by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscle contraction.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results.

This treatment sometimes works best in combination with dermal fillers, to completely remove the lines in the lower face.

Q22: Smokers’ / Lipstick lines - How does it work?

Wrinkles around the mouth can occur due to puckering of the lips when speaking or puckering due to smoking. They are commonly referred to as smokers’ lines, although a lot of people develop them due to the facial expressions they make when speaking. These lines are quite aging. In women, lipstick tends to move away from the lip and into these lines.

Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscle contraction. Injecting the orbicularis oris muscle, which surrounds the mouth, prevents these creases from forming.

Over time even the deepest lines begin to soften, while superficial lines disappear entirely.

This treatment is often used in combination with dermal filler treatment, to fill in deeper lines.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results.

Q25: Bunny Lines - How does it work?

Wrinkles that occur at the bridge of the nose and sometimes between the eyes, are referred to as ‘bunny’ or ‘scrunch’ lines. They are commonly visible when people smile. Anti-wrinkle Injections can be used to relax the nasalis muscle and eliminate these lines.

Anti-wrinkle Injections work by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) which is required for muscles contraction. Therefore, it can reduce or completely prevent the dynamic movements which make these lines more prominent.

Over time even the deepest lines begin to soften, while superficial lines disappear entirely.

It is a virtually painless procedure that has fantastic results. By attending an experienced doctor, you can be guaranteed fantastic results with top-ups if required.
