‘Dermal fillers’ is the term commonly used when referring to hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate that can be found in the muscles, joints, fat and of course the skin. It is an important element in skin repair and is responsible for retaining moisture in the skin. Sun exposure and age decrease the amount of hyaluronic acid produced by the skin resulting in lines, wrinkles, and a sunken appearance.
It is an important component of the fat pads in the face that give people a fresh, youthful look. As we age these fat pads shrink, resulting in winkles, lines, hollowing of the cheeks, weakening of the chin, and sagging of the skin.
With dermal fillers we reintroduce this compound to areas where it has been depleted. It can also be used to enhance areas where it was never abundant in the first place. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water. By injecting it, we help to plump and moisturize the skin.
The effects of treatment are immediately evident with dermal fillers, which is why they are so satisfying for the client and for the doctor! The effects last from between 6 – 18 months depending on the compound used and area treated.
Does it hurt & when will I see results?
Everybody has a slightly different experience due to skin thickness; pain threshold and areas being treated but, in general, these treatments are almost completely painless; a small pinch is the extent of the discomfort.
A numbing agent will be rubbed into the skin to ensure a comfortable experience for the client. The treatment itself also contains a numbing agent to add to this effect. First-time clients might find the sensation unusual but not painful
You will see an immediate result with dermal fillers. Your final result will be evident after 5-7 days. This is the time when the treatment fully settles, and any additional swelling subsides.

The products we use in our dermal fillers
What We Use In Dermal Fillers
Between the ages of 25 and 55, we lose 10mls of volume from our face. This is due to the normal ageing process and is responsible for skin sagging, wrinkles and a tired appearance. The answer to this volume loss is to restore volume using dermal fillers.
There are a few products we use in our dermal filler treatments, and it depends on where the filler is going. This is because the thickness and elasticity of the product need to match the area it is treating. All of these fillers are safe to use on the skin and are a non-surgical answer to giving your skin a more youthful and plump appearance.
- Juvederm Volux uses hyaluronic acid, which is rejuvenating and has the right consistency that makes it perfect for precise jawline shaping and deep tissue support. It is also used for the chin to create a better shape.
- Juvederm Voluma is used around the cheeks and midface, and mouth area to add more volume or to combat the volume loss that naturally occurs as you get older.
- One of our most popular products is the Juvederm Volift. This is used to smooth out smile lines that are typical around the eyes and nose. It is also great for providing lip volume.
- Juvederm Vobella is great for giving a very subtle lift to the lips. It has a very fluid consistency and is therefore great for treating superficial lines, such as smoker lines or fine cheek wrinkles. It is also used for the undereye hollows (tear troughs) and temples to restore volume that may be at a deficit or is lost with age.
- Juvederm Ultra is the injectable gel that is put into the lips for lip augmentation, which gives your lips more symmetry and a fuller look.
- Restylane Silk is a hyaluronic acid filler used to improve the appearance of thin lips and any wrinkles that may be around the mouth. It is a gel that plumps up the skin and adds volume to the lip area.
- Redensity 2 gel corrects areas of the skin that have signs of ageing, such as wrinkles, lines and skin cracks. It is used on the face and neckline and gives a more youthful appearance to the skin, rejuvenating it.
- HArmonyCA is a product that combines the volumising effects of hyaluronic acid with the collagen stimulating effects of calcium hydroxyapatite. As we age, our collagen production slows, resulting in reduced skin elasticity. This shows up as wrinkles. This combination therapy is a novel way to simultaneously fill the deficit caused by volume loss and produce collagen to improve skin elasticity and quality.
What will happen on the day of my treatment?
Your doctor will arrive at your place of treatment at the time of your appointment. They will ask you a few questions relating to COVID-19, to ensure that there is minimal risk of transmission. You will be asked if you read the consent form, which would have been emailed to at your time of booking. You will then be asked to sign a physical copy of the consent form. You will then be asked to sit in the treatment chair so the doctor can cleanse your skin. The area will be numbed with a topical anaesthetic prior to treatment. The doctor will examine your face, marking the areas that will be treated. A tiny needle will be used to minimise discomfort. The targeted area will be treated in 5-10 minutes, leaving you with immediate, lasting results.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Treatment Aftercare
- You may experience some swelling and bruising the day after your procedure. This is completely normal and will subside in 5-7 days. Avoiding alcohol and the 24 hours before and after your treatment will help to limit this.
- Avoid heavy makeup or unnecessarily touching the area for 6 hours to reduce the risk of infection.
- Avoid Vitamin C, Retinol, AHA and BHA skincare products for 24 hours after treatment, to give your treatment time to settle.
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for 24 hours to reduce the chance of the treatment moving.
- Keep upright for 4 hours to reduce the chance of the treatment moving to unintended areas.
- Avoid strenuous exercise such as weight-training or cross-fit for 24 hours as it can occasionally cause the treatment to move to unintended areas.
- Avoid saunas, jacuzzies or hot baths for 24 hours after the procedure as the heat can result in treatment migration.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of bruising.
- Don’t sleep on the treated area the night following your treatment.
